Karen wrote an ode to her kitties past and present for her ode.
Ode to My Kitties
Sunset
fading, comes a pitiful cry
Of a tiny kitten, out in the street.
Abandoned, small, lost, but not at all shy
The tiny striped tiger scrambles to
greet.
Oh no! NOT a cat! Dog people are we!
After Labor Day weekend, it’s off
to the pound-
But by Tuesday, with purrs and snuggles, he’s named K.C.
Karen’s Cat - in our hearts, a home
he’s found.
Across country and back, for 19 long years
KC traveled with me, sharing the
downs and the ups
My first kitty friend, to me he’s still dear
He tolerated husband, baby and three
pups!
Ryan’s kitty - Zorro cat of the crooked tail,
A tough tuxedo boy, macho and strong.
Engaging personality, a true beasty without fail,
Forever attacking, treating everybody
wrong!
Funny and silly, the daily tough guy routine,
A life far too short, we won’t ever forget.
The seasons change, the years roll by
Love goes with paw pats, headbutts
and tears
They wrap themselves around your heart, their memory makes us sigh
But through it all, it’s very clear
That our fur kids are special, they hold a piece of us
And we wouldn’t have it any other
way
Because without them, even with the worry and the fuss,
The pages of the calendar would just
mean boring, "no kitty" days.
The lessons learned, we were such ignorant beans,
The great heart trying to say
goodbye, a caring vet.
Dainty ballerina, fluffy long hair, small and sweet -
Gentle Cella, a fringe benefit from
work?
All we knew was her name, the nicest kitty you’d ever meet
Quiet and tiny, no strange little
quirks,
An unobtrusive presence, cuddled by both Zorro and Bug
The universal pal, the ultimate
unknown cat
The mysterious fuzzball who perfected kitty hugs
Here for a moment and then gone, only
a shadow where she sat.
From three down to one, in one short year.
Shutterbug remains, a constant
friend,
This sugar kitty is so very dear.
She keeps me sane, but always at
wit’s end
She made me learn and think, she made me care more.
She helped me find others who walk in
our shoes,
Working with vets, fussing, fuming – hear us roar!
Reading, asking, learning the
“don’ts” and the “do’s”
Zorro’s lessons learned and put to good use
Her gentle presence greets me at the
door.
Diabetes? “It’s too inconvenient” is NOT an excuse.
Paw pats and kitty kisses – I could
not ask for more.
Bug would like you to visit a special link, this is the vet school her brother Ryan is attending!
