Hi Rasc.. I knew you’d stop by today.  They’ve been really quiet all morning.  Just like last year.

This is a hard date for them to deal with, Kate.  It’s a hard day for everyone today.  Their hearts are sad not just for the friends they miss, but for much else as well.

Do you think they’ll ever forget this one, Rasc?

Sigh..no, Kate – not this one.  This one shook their whole species in such terrible ways that the ripple effect went around the world and deep into the Heart of Man.  This one will last for many lifetimes I’m afraid.

Did it really have to be that horrendous, Rasky?  Couldn’t their kind have stopped it beforehand?

That’s hard to say, Kate.  Most beans don’t grow to hate one another.  While they all make mistakes, it’s really only a very few that allow their dark side to overrule their judgement.  They need to learn to get along without their guns or their hatreds.  And they will – someday.

I wish this had never happened.  All it did was bring hurt and sadness everywhere.

You’re right, Kate – it was a day that No One deserved and one that shouldn’t have happened. Yet with all that sadness came some brightness as well, and those effects lingered as well.  Millions of beans stopped what they were doing and began to help one another.  They became more generous and less judgemental.  They showed how good their hearts really were, and they spoke gently even to strangers.

You know why I always remind you to ‘think before you act’, don’t you?

Sure, Rasc – because once something’s done or said it can’t be taken back – it’s there forever.

Right, Kate.  A day such as 9-11 reminds us all how unexpectedly we can lose so very much.  It also reminds us to appreciate our lives and not to take things for granted.  Life’s too short to let words or actions be anything other than fair and considerate, even to those we can’t agree with or don’t understand.  Only the Great Cat knows what tomorrow may bring for any of us.

I know, Rasky..and I try my best, I really do.

That’s what matters, Kate – that you put the effort into trying to do what you know is best. But now I’ve got to go..the four-leggers who came over on 9-11 are having a Bridge service in a little while.  I need to be there.

I understand. Thanks for checking on us all.  I think I’m going to go give our Beans a nice headbutt now; and I’ll be extra gentle to them all day. Just something to show them I haven’t forgotten what today means to them, and that I care.

That’s the way to be, Little One. That’s the spirit this date should bring out in all of us. See you later.

Bye, Rasc.
