It’s
Mother’s
Day. I had a visit from my First Mom today.
And?
And
it was a really nice time…she
made me purr really happy.
And?
And
she reminded me how lucky I am to have my Bean Mom.
And?
And
I want to do something special for HER –
our BEAN Mom…something
to let her know I really appreciate all the special things she’s
done for me. We’ve
been through so much together! But
I don’t
know what to do; I need some ideas. I
want to show her I love her just as much as the Little Beans do!
You know, they spent ALL DAY yesterday making her this ‘card’
thing, with very sweet words on it. But
I didn’t
make ANYthing for her –
I don’t
even know HOW (sigh).
Well,
Kate, we tigers don’t
usually DO things like the Little Beans do.
Those crayons are killers to hold, let me tell you!
And once you’ve
gotten your first paper cut on your tongue from trying to fold that thing
over, you learn why we avoid any paper not already nicely crumpled up.
Besides, you can’t
do the same thing as the Little Beans are doing- it would bust their balloon.
Oh
no, Rasky, I wouldn’t
break their balloon, honest..I NEVER hurt their toys!

Kate, it’s

see if we can find a special gift for you to give…hmmmm…
whisker kisses? They’re
always nice..
I
give her those all the time. I
need something different for today.
An
extra long purring head butt?
Not
special enough.
Jump
in her lap and snuggle?
I
already do that at night when we have quiet time.
Follow
her around and let her know how much you like to be with her?
If
I follow her around all the time she’ll
just think I’m
hungry, so she’ll
feed me again…or
think something’s
wrong and then she’ll
worry…that
won’t
work. I need something SPECIAL, something that says I LOVE her..
Well,
ok then –there
you go! That’s
it, and it’s
so simple..

Whaddya mean?
You
want to say “I
love you”,
right? So…SAY
it. TELL her you love her, don’t
just show it in your usual ways.
Rasc,
it isn’t
easy to ‘tell’
her…she
doesn’t
speak Cat, you know that.
Right…so
teach her.
Teach
her Cat??? So she can understand me?
I didn’t
think beans could ever DO that. Besides,
I don’t
have a lot of time to work on this. And
isn’t
that taking a pretty big chance?
Kate,
some chances are always worth taking, no matter what the outcome.
How many times have I told you that just because ‘most’
beans don’t
do something, it doesn’t
mean ‘all’
beans are that way? There’s
more than one way to communicate –
and if you don’t
TRY something, you won’t
ever know if you can accomplish it or not.
She always listens to you –
you know that. And she talks to
you all the time. So this time
make her understand you. You don’t
need to teach her our whole language in one day…just
a few words…just
“I
love you”.

Nothing
ventured, nothing gained..

I want to try. How do I do
it?
Well,
I’m
not quite sure, Kate…
You
talk to her all the time, Rasky…how
do YOU do it?
I
talk to her heart, Kate –
it’s
a bit different. But I don’t
see why it wouldn’t
work for you, too. You’ll
need to purr loudly…and
send a strong message to her heart…it
won’t
be easy. Remember, she’s
as new to this as you are. You’ll
need patience…and
concentration…and
good eye contact’s
a must. But first you’ll
need to get her undivided attention..
I
can make her get down on the floor with me, Rasky…or…I
can jump up on the back of that ‘cliner
chair, so I’m
high, like her! I’ll
meow and make my eyes real big, so she can’t
miss paying attention!
That’ll
work, Kate. Eye contact’s
the key. Once you’ve
got that you need to sit very still, relax, direct every ounce of energy into
this. Make her stop whatever she’s
doing so she’s
not distracted…and
make sure your heart’s
connected strongly to hers…then
take a deep purr, and say “HEY
MOM –
I LOVE YOU!”

I’ll
DO it. I’m
getting all excited now!

Now, put FEELING behind it! Give
me a blink that has SOUL, that can’t
be MISSED, that shouts out “I
want to TELL you something, something IMPORTANT”…

Now, take the words from your heart and send them right up INTO that
blink, make it communicate LOVE and GRATITUDE and ALL the feelings you have
inside for her…give
it your all, Kate!!
