Somogyi rebound is alive and well - contrary to the belief of a lot of vets ;)  If you're not familar with somogyi rebound, please see Gorb's mini-FAQ on rebound for an explanation and more info links.

This area of Gorb's site will be dedicated your stories of rebound.  We hope that by sharing our own experiences with rebound folks new to feline diabetes and maybe even some vets will gain a better understanding of this confusing yet very dangerous phenomenon.

Use the form below to send Gorb your rebound story.  Try to include some of the following details:

• how the rebound started (i.e. too high starting dose, raising dose too fast, hypos followed by no reduction in dose, etc)
• how long the rebound went on (as best as you can estimate)
• why you started to supect rebound (flat curves, preshots getting higher, etc)
• how you diagnosed rebound (cut dose - if so, how much?)
• what you did to stop the rebound cycle (start back from scratch, start home testing, etc)

Rebound can be very dangerous - think of the the body as bouncing around sugar-wise to protect itself from hypoglycemia. The body can only bounce so many times before the "elastic" gives/breaks and you could be facing a catastrophic hypo incident.   Please take somogyi seriously - even if your vet doesn't think it exists - as with everything, be proactive.  Prevention is a lot more fun than treatment !
