Although no direct experience with DKA, I helped a local owner deal with DKA mainly at home (she's a nurse) and helped her make sure her vet provided proper treatment & support. I learned a lot over that week by posting to the FDMB, synthesizing the responses and referring that to the owner while staying on top of the current situation with her kitty so I could go back an ask for more input as things changed. I also have prior experience with another kitty with hyperthyroid condition and hypothyroid experience with a dog.

Serendipity suddenly began suffering from severe respiratory distress and died in November 2000, 5 months post dx, of what we think was a blood clot affecting her lungs. Rick and I still miss her very much. I remain active on the fdmb helping other sugarcat parents who need advice. I am happy to lend an ear to anyone who needs it- if you email me, I’ll even send you my phone number to talk in person. When Serendipity was first dx, a friend gave me an acquaintance’s number who had owned a diabetic cat. Speaking with her made me feel so much better about the situation and I would like to do that for others.
