Water, Water Everywhere...
One of Gorb's favorite hobbies is driving me crazy with his water obsession. This obsession started shortly after diagnosis, and at first was a sign something was up. Twice since diagnosis Gorb has spilled trace ketones and both times he badgered us to be allowed into the tub post shower...leading us to believe he was dehydrated.
Because we feared Gorb was dehydrated we thought we'd try him on this fancy, schmancy water from our WholeFoods Market. The water is called Glaceau smartwater and is distilled as well as contains electrolytes. We checked with the vet and figured we'd try it out as the electrolytes were a definite plus. (Previously, cats drank regular old generic bottled water.)
Well,
the Glaceau goes for about $1.49-$1.99 for a 1.5 Liter bottle...can you guess
what happened next? Gorb got totally addicted to the water, refuses to drink
generic bottled water, and eventually talks the other cats into boycotting
anything but Glaceau. I should put a picture of myself with Gorb in here,
you'd recognize me as it says "sucker" on my forehead in big letters.
So months pass and Gorb (and roommies) get only Glaceau.
But Gorb's not happy if I'm not worried about something, so all of a sudden the
bathroom faucet seemed to start dripping glaceau. Gorb can't get enough of
bathroom tap water. We of course fear the worst, only to find out the
little SOB is just messing with us. The whole
"running", "rushing" thing is his latest addiction.
So what does the Hanukkah Fairy bring Gorb this year? The Petmate fountain pictured below. This features a water filter (meaning we now use tap water and provide Glaceau in a separate bowl) and constant streaming water. Its a hit! We got it at Petsmart online (link below) and all the cats adapted to it quickly. No noise except for the occasional air bubble...and our 2-year old nephew thinks its great fun as well! (pics of nephew and fountain coming soon)
So what's next? Who knows...we've already have had some close calls running out of Glaceau. FYI - Evian is a no go for Gorb (you should have seen the face)..and that Fiji Artesian Water, nice bottle - nice try - not gonna happen. And when Gorb goes to the vet we send him with a travel size bottle of Glaceau, like in his pics above (have I told you that his vet thinks I'm insane).
